Welcome to CairnWood Tree Solutions!

A little bit about us…

living in the Cairngorms is a true eye opener to anyone with the slight appreciation to history and wildlife, Our woodlands have undergone dramatic change over the years—from wartime timber production, establishment of the Forestry Commission, and today’s native woodland restoration projects.

I’ve always had a deep fascination with the history rooted in these forests, particularly the early forestry operations of the 19th and 20th centuries. These were times of intense activity, where vast areas of ancient Caledonian forest were worked using horse, steam power, light-railway networks, and relentless manual graft!

While it’s hard to ignore the loss of much of our native woodland, there’s a real respect to be had for the resilience and determination of the lumber Jacks & Jills that worked these forests for vital wartime timber reserves.

This history is a big part of what drives my passion for arboriculture and forestry today. It inspires a commitment to doing things properly—learning from the past while applying modern, responsible practices to care for the trees and landscapes around us.
